American University offers a BS, BA, or a minor in Public Health that prepares students to pursue professional endeavors informed by a social justice approach. American also offers a unique accelerated 3-year Public Health Scholars program. In this program undergraduates join a cohort of other passionate public health students and engage in a living-learning community in their first year, and study abroad in the second program year. Students may also complete a combined bachelor’s/master’s program in 5 years; Public Health Scholars may earn both degrees in 4 years.

Community-engaged learning is integrated throughout the curriculum through internships and service-learning activities with local, national, and global organizations in Washington, DC that are dedicated to improving population health. A wide range of electives are available within four key clusters: global health, health science, social & community health, and policy, program planning & evaluation.
