The vision of the University of Washington School of Public Health is Healthy People in Sustainable Communities – Locally, National and Globally. To that end, it is applying its outstanding research, teaching excellence and dedication to service to meeting the challenges of the 21st century. Among these challenges are global environmental change and human health; obesity, physical fitness and health; the social determinants of health; genomics and health and health policy.

Founded in 1970, the school comprises five departments: biostatistics, environmental and occupational health sciences, epidemiology, global health and health services. The Department of Global Health has helped make Seattle a nexus of global health research and activity, partnering with PATH and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, among many others.
