Fall 2024 Procedures Revisions

Proposed revision to Accreditation Procedures: comments due Thursday, November 21, 2024

The Council on Education for Public Health recently identified a need for greater clarity in its Accreditation Procedures related to three specific areas:

  1. Voluntary withdrawal from CEPH accreditation (e.g., when a program plans to close)
  2. PHP or SBP decisions to remove a full degree, i.e., not a concentration or specialization, from the unit of accreditation (e.g., a PHP that no longer wishes to include an associated PhD in its unit of accreditation).
  3. Defining the unit of accreditation in SBPs. The procedures will benefit from an explicit statement clarifying the distinction from the SPH category, language that has long been in the procedures for PHP, but which had not been copied over to the section pertaining to SBPs.

Per CEPH policy we are now accepting public comments prior to official adoption. Comments must be confined to the proposed changes as marked in the document below.

A marked-up document highlighting the changes is available for download here.

Comments must be submitted via this form by the close of business on Thursday November 21, 2024. Comments submitted via letter or other methods will not be accepted.

Next steps:

At its December 3-4, 2024 meeting, the Council will consider any comments received and adopt an updated Accreditation Procedures document. We expect that the revised procedures will be effective immediately, and we will provide written notification to all units within 30 days of the meeting’s conclusion.
