Ruth Gaare Bernheim, JD, MPH
Ruth Gaare Bernheim is the William Hobson Professor and Chair of the Department of Public Health Sciences and founding director of the Master of Public Health Program in the School of Medicine, as well as co-director of the Institute for Practical Ethics and Public Life, at the University of Virginia. The Department of Public Health Sciences has more than 40 faculty members who focus on research, teaching and service to improve population health and clinical care.
In addition to serving on the CEPH Board of Councilors, Ms. Bernheim also serves on the Board of Scientific Counselors, Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC); and on the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) Task Force on Framing the Future of Public Health Education Executive Committee. She recently served as chair of the CDC’s Ethics Subcommittee for three years and as president of the Virginia Public Health Association.
