San José State University offers its MPH degree in campus and online formats, with a specialization in community health education and health promotion. The program prepares students for careers as community health practitioners and is well known for its practice-oriented, community-based training.

The MPH program's mission is achieved through an integrated program of instruction, research, and service, carried out in close collaboration with a diverse network of community programs and practitioners. The program’s ultimate goal is public health and social justice through planned, organized and empowering community efforts.

The campus format offers students the flexibility to complete their degree in 2 to 7 years, depending on personal circumstances. The online format follows a cohort model offered through special sessions and is a fast-paced, 24-month program of study.
